The genius who changed the sound of Hindi film music forever, Pancham Da was a maverick, a pioneer who introduced new arrangements and influences from music world in his work. He was an Indian Film score composer and one of the influential music directors of the Indian film industry. On October 8, 2011 Fortune Entertainment paid tribute to this legendary composer by arranging a show called ‘Yeh Vaada Raha’ and perhaps the script of ‘Fortune’ had been written around RD’s songs. Is there a more perfect piece of music, Bollywood has produced than the title theme of Sholay? We don’t think so. This title theme by R. D. Burman introduces us to the movie’s landscape – Ramgarh’s rocky hills. The same little gem opened the curtains of our show ‘Yeh Vaada Raha’ and introduced us to a grand orchestration of 20 musicians. From there onwards, this show went on with the magical music of R. D. Burman that runs ahead of times.
“As the saying goes, the body may depart, the soul lives on. Pancham Da’s soul still lingers on with his soulful music, a legacy which very few have been able to carry forward. It’s not every day that the legends are born.”
